  • “Hi. My name is Kuajuan. I’m an accountant who's a conduit to growth. Just to give you a little background, I created BlackQuasar, as an idea, in high school. I was lying in bed looking up at the ceiling, talking to my mom, spewing out theories and dreams, until I cycled through a rapid selection of words and gave those ideas a name. Back then it was supposed to be a record label, but since then, it grew into something a lot more powerful, a community that seeks creativity and growth. After high school, I knew that busniess would be the foundation, so I chose the most interesting busniess major, accounting. And received my bachelors from Barry University, with a minor in music. And continued on to a Master’s in Music Industry at Cal State Northridge. During my master program, I was stunned by a simple fact. Within 10 years 80% of businesses in the United States fail, 30% fail within the first year. Ideas and dreams like mine, gone. And at the time I was toddling with the idea of taking the CPA, originally opted out, but something told me that I need to. But the question “why did those businesses fail” constantly played in my head and it bothered me. How are all these businesses going under? Then I asked myself, how will my business go under? … I was faced with the truth. I would fail for the same reason I didn’t want to take the CPA. The CPA exam intimidated me. And it was the biggest test that was attached to my destiny (my grandma is an accountant, so I knew it was coming). I was a great academic student, but the CPA, for some reason, seemed to exceed my level. And when I thought about it long enough, the reason it seemed out of my league was because I was more scared of putting in the effort required to make it successful, then of actually taking the test. It was easier not to take it and build from where I was. And come to find out that most of us innately have that type of mindset (as a survival mechanism). When we are faced with a challenge that was meant for us, our first instinct is to doubt ourselves and avoid the discomfort. Going through that master’s program helped me realize that if I was going to be of any value to anybody, I had to start taking myself seriously. The CPA was my challenge, and it affected all the area’s that I was weak in, but it also helped me discover what made me strong. I knew what I wanted, where I was starting, created a plan, and day afterday, executed. When I passed the first test, the first thing I remember was when I told myself it wasn’t worth it. I couldn’t believe it. I chose to fail before I even decided to try. A lot of us fail before we give ourselves the privilege of failing. So why do businesses fail at such a high success rate? During my journey through the CPA process, I discovered that it has to do with 3 principles that ensures our success: our mentality, our preparation, and our execution. I had to clearly visualize how I was going to pass these tests and believe I could pass them. Then I had to realistically dissect where I’m started and what gaps I needed to fill to strengthen my base. Once I knew where I was starting, I researched what resources I needed, organized the information, and created a strategy.  And most importantly I held myself accountable for my time and executed what I needed to do. It wasn’t perfect, but the model lead me to become competent. And competence lead to confidence. And once I had confidence, nothing was going to stop me. I reevaluated my approach, and once I understood how I was overcoming my limitations, I started adopting this format of growth to every area of my interest. I’ve used this model to become a better musician and songwriter. I use this model when I teach self-defense and when I train. I’m using this model to help grow my business, and I’m using this model to help other business grow. For a business to grow, they must have a clear vision, a secure foundation, a set plan, and action, more action. I realized that if this process was communicated more, we’d have a lot more businesses making it out the other end. My base is in accounting, but I specialize in the journey. Getting from point A to point B. and all I want to do is help people realize their potential. To help them see their dreams come true. I created BlackQuasar to be an example of how powerful a culture can be when it’s focused on creating more quality lives, then when it’s focusing on tearing down the opposite side.”
